Inaura - an independent special school in Somerset

Children do not come to Inaura school because they can't learn but so that they can do.

  • We believe our students can learn if we help to sort out their problems and build good relationships with young people and their families/ carers.
  • We believe in equality openness, and honesty.
  • Our highest priority is to keep our students safe, health, and happy.
  • We never force children to do things they do not want to do.
  • We give our students hope that there is a place for them in the world.

Inaura School provides education for boys and girls who have additional learning needs such as the acquisition of numeracy and literacy skills. Most have failed to thrive in their previous educational settings. Some have developmental disorders such as ASD/ Tourette's.

Currently, 21 boys and two girls attend aged between 10 and 18 years and nearly all have statements of special educational needs. Almost all young people come from Somerset and have their places funded by their local authority. The school is located on six sites offering different environments, from a cosy cottage to a nature reserve (SSSI).

Centres are in Burrowbridge, near Taunton, in Somerset and the village of Lower Godney near Glastonbury.

The school seeks to ‘develop well-motivated and self-regulated individuals’ by removing barriers to learning and by providing an education tailored to each pupil’s individual needs.
